A Childs Prayer
O Lord care for my Mummy
For she looks after me
And please look after Daddy
Wherever he may be.
Please help me understand, Lord
Why he went away,
Both Mum and I still love him,
Why did he not stay?
If you listen you’ll hear Mummy
Crying every night
How can Daddy ever think
That what he did was right.
I know she speaks to you, Lord
I’ve listened through the crack
Amidst her tears, I’ve heard her plead
To bring my Daddy back.
Grandma says he’s bad, Lord,
I hate to think that’s true
He taught me what was right and wrong,
He taught me about you.
Life was happy then,
Not so long ago,
Until my Daddy came to me
And said he had to go.
The following days were empty
The worst of my short life.
It’s terrible feeling not wanted
Even worse for Mummy, his wife.
Christmas is just around the corner
I don’t want a bike or toy,
Please try to bring me back my Daddy
For my Mum and a small lonely boy.
Amen.
