Walkies
At the family get together
I’ve often heard them talk
‘He’s not getting any younger
He needs get out and walk
Not going for long walks
He doesn’t need go far
At present he only walks
From the front door to the car
We know he has a bad back
Wonky feet and knees
But if he keeps on sitting down
All his joints will freeze
He needs to start at once
Before he gets too frail
We suggest he gets up early
Walks for his Daily Mail’
I took in their suggestion
It will help my knees and feet
If I get up in the morning
To walk along the street.
The alarm was set last night
To make sure I wasn’t late
I’d be up and dressed and ready
On the street just after eight.
The alarm went off, I’m ready
To make an early start
The first of many trips
I’m eager now to start
Looking through the window
The street is wet with rain
Running down the houses
And down the window pane
I looked across at Joan
Looked sad and said with sorrow
‘I can’t go out in this
I’ll try again tomorrow’.
