Just For Show
We have bought some household items
I’ve been threatened with aggro
If I ever try to use them
These things are just for show,
We bought a lovely bath mat
In a shade of egg shell blue
Although we’ve had it several weeks
It’s still as good as new
For when we’re getting out the bath
We can’t but it on the floor
The mat is not for standing on
It’s only meant for show.
Then thanks to Joseph Joseph
We bought a wash up bowl
Which has a large green stopper
At the centre in a hole
I should put the water in the sink
I was told that I should know
The bowl is not for using
It’s only meant for show
Next we got a towel
Bought from Boundary Mill
Placed upon a rack
And there resplendent still
For if you wash your hands
When you have to go
You will have to leave them wet
The towel’s just for show
Next we got some cushions
To help enhance each chair
If ever you call round
You will see them neatly there.

But if you sit, remove them
Though you will be sitting low
They are not meant for sitting on
They are only meant for show.
Then there is a draining board
One of Joan’s latest wishes
Very nice to look at
But not for draining dishes.
If I fail to remember
Joan gives me a sharp No!
That is not it’s purpose
That item’s just for show.
Utensils in the kitchen
Pillow covers on the bed
I know that they are ornaments
I just take that as red
But as I’m getting older
One thing I need to know
Do I have a purpose?
Or am I also just for show?
