Halloween

The 31st October

Today is Halloween

A day when ghosts and witches

And vampires can be seen.

I got a pack of sweets

Joan said, “We need some more

To give to all the children

Who come knocking at the door”

It’s now got dark, I step outside

I can hear the sound

Of laughing happy children

In other streets around.

A bowl of sweets is sitting

On the kitchen shelf

Perhaps they cannot ring

So I check the bell myself.

All is dark and quiet

As nine o’clock draws near

Perhaps we’ll have to wait

For them to come next year.

We had no ghosts or goolies

Bats and owls were few

Perhaps because it’s raining

It is too wet to woo.
