The End of Mining

The days of mining are over

The need for coal has gone.

For every hundred pits

There now is less than one.

Why did this all happen

We each have our own story

Was Maggie seeking revenge

Or Scargill seeking glory.

The experts want things cleaner

The day of fossil fuels run

The future comes from nature

Using waves or wind or sun.

But now across in Yorkshire

There is no coal for Drax

And the Keithley and Worth Steam railway

May  be standing on its tracks

A giant power station

Being run on imported wood

But what about the steam train

The Wind and sun is no good

There is still a power shortage

Alternatives must be found

The answer is quite simple

It is right here below this ground.
