A Rose By Any Other Name
I’ll tell about a flower
Fragrant to the nose
Its name a sign of beauty
The pretty English rose
Though found in many gardens
Its varieties are vast
The rose throughout its history
Has had a chequered past
Back in 1455
Men were sent to fight
Proud behind a rose
Be it red or white
The nobility of England
Chose there favoured side
For over 30 years
Many fought and died
When Henry Tudor took the throne
The first action that he chose
To hybridise the red and white
And make the Tudor Rose
When World War Two was ending
As hostilities did cease
A rose stood out alone
By the name of PEACE
This most beautiful of roses
Will forever be remembered
As standing proudly in the UN
When Germany surrendered.
There are many types of roses
H.T., Floribunda
Climbing, shrub and Patio
Dog and Grandiflora.
Whatever it is called
It will still remain the same.
A rose is still a rose
By any other name
